The Field Scans project began out of my curiosity about how a flatbed scanner would depict the 3D world outdoors. In 2003, I removed the lid from a portable flatbed scanner, sealed the body to protect it from the damp weather and took it with a laptop into the woods of Schmitz Park in West Seattle. In 2009, I re-visited this project by making field scans in the West Duwamish Greenbelt with a newer modified portable flatbed scanner.
